INTRODUCING APPRENTICE KATIE WRIGHTON, THE 4,000th UNEMPLOYED YOUNG PERSON PLACED BY KEY RECRUITMENT AND TRAINING IN THE LAST FOUR YEARS.
KATIE IS AN APPRENTICE AT MET RECRUITMENT IN THE WEST MIDLANDS AND WINS AN iPAD MINI FROM SKILLSFIRST AWARDS, SPONSORS OF AN AWARD FOR EVERY 1,000 UNEMPLOYED YOUNG PERSON WE PLACE IN A JOB WITH AN APPRENTICESHIP.
I started looking for an Apprenticeship due to not enjoying A Levels and not 100% knowing what I wanted to do as a career and I couldn’t see myself going to University. I chose to apply for administration roles and when I saw the role in recruitment, I was really interested due to friends working in the same industry and saying how much they enjoy their job; also it is a more customer facing role not just administration. The future prospects were good and there seemed to be a lot of movement that could be made within the business, using different skills and therefore gaining lots of different experiences.
Sam from Key Training then got in touch with me about the position and she sold the role to me in a perfect light, I really wanted to go for an interview. Sam was always very friendly and knew a lot about the position and the company. She got me my interview with MET Recruitment and was very helpful giving me tips and pointers as to what questions may be asked and how to answer them. Sam checked in with me before my interview to make sure if I was okay and made me feel more confident leading up to my interview. My interview was very laid back, more of a chat than a formal interview; this was to see if my personality was suitable for the role.
After my interview, she contacted me and gave me feedback and within a few hours she called me to say I had got the job! She then went through how my Apprenticeship would work and what I could go on to after finishing my level 2. I was very excited to get started and learn a new role as well as gaining qualifications.
After starting at MET, I had a phone call from Sam to check how I was getting on and if I was enjoying my role, she also then set up a meeting with my assessor to come in and see me. She made me aware of what to expect so I was prepared leading into my first couple of weeks. When my Training Consultant came in she explained how Ecordia worked and went through the units she was doing with me, she was lovely and very bubbly.
I am now in my second month and I love where I am working and the different tasks I do each day. I have settled in well and everyone that I work alongside is very supportive and friendly. Leaving college was the best option for me as I am gaining experience within a business environment alongside getting qualifications.
Feedback from MET Recruitment
We have experienced the Apprenticeship Scheme here at MET Recruitment previously having recruited 4 apprentices in total – all of which have been via Key Training and all of which have proven to be fantastic employees so far. Two out of the four apprentices we have within the team have already progressed through the business into roles where they have developed.
Key Training has always provided an excellent service and we have been fortunate enough to have access to interviewing some very talented, driven and focused young candidates. Personally in 14 years of recruitment I had never employed Apprentices until now and although it had worked for the business previously I was a little hesitant when it came to fulfilling Katie’s role, however Sam proved to be an excellent recruitment partner – she was informative, really listened to what I wanted from a candidate and presented me with a selection of good candidates for the role.
When interviewing Katie I knew instantly that she would fit into the current team and she came across as a bright, driven and well prepared young lady. Since Katie has been on board with MET Recruitment she has not disappointed, she has picked up new systems and tasks very quickly – often only having to be shown once how to do something and she has taken on every task she has been given confidently and requiring little support.
In the short time that Katie has been with us she has made a really positive impression. She is polite, hard-working, punctual and is already progressing with her knowledge of the business really quickly. Katie is an asset to the team and I genuinely believe she has a bright future here with MET. Needless to say I would not hesitate to return to Key Training when recruiting a role at this level in the future.
